August 2008 promises to be a watershed month in Michigan, as no less than five major automotive events convene here this summer for car-lovers and their families. Whether your fascination is the volcanic rumble of an unmuffled big-block V-8, an up-close look at a gleaming concours Duesenberg or the flash of an IndyCar darting into an S-bend at speed, there’ll be something for everyone.

The Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance is like no other concours in the world. Held on the grounds of automotive royalty (Meadow Brook Estate was built by a member of the Dodge family), the Concours epitomizes the sophistication, grace and opulence that were the inspiration for the classic automobiles of the Twenties and Thirties. Sunday, August 3rd.

Cruisin’ MotorCities is an all-new auto-tourism festival that gets underway the week prior to the Woodward Dream Cruise. It kicks off with the Detroit Festival of Speed and Style and will feature its own parades, cars, displays, concerts and rides. It takes place on Woodward Avenue from Campus Martius Park to Foxtown. Friday, August 8th to Friday, August 15th.

The new Detroit Festival of Speed and Style marries the thrill of racing and the excitement of cruising with the quiet elegance of a concours d’elegance in an all-inclusive show celebrating the historical contribution of the automobile. The DFOSS takes place in Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit. Sunday, August 10.
